What are warts and what causes them?

Warts are skin growths that are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). There are more than 60 kinds of HPV, some of which tend to cause warts on the skin. HPV stimulates quick growth of cells on the skin’s outer layer. In most cases, common warts appear on the fingers, near the fingernails, or on the hands.

What are facial warts

Warts can come in all shapes and sizes. When warts occur on the face, they are generally flat in shape. The medical term for this kind of wart is verruca plana, also known as a juvenile wart. Flat warts are usually flesh colored or tan. In the early stages, the wart is typically small and only as big as a pinhead. In some cases, the wart might protrude slightly, but it often retains its flat shape throughout its lifespan. A filiform wart is another type of wart that can occur on the facial area. It has a distinctive form.

Nose warts

Both flat and filiform warts can occur on the nose. Filiform warts resemble twigs, which hang from the skin. It is more difficult to treat warts on the nose because of their proximity to the eyes. When treating nose warts, the medication used should be non-toxic and safe to use near the eyes.

Neck warts

The neck area is another location near the face that can have flat warts. They can grow in large bunches of ten or more. If there are warts in this area, you should avoid clothing with a high neck or wearing jewelry around your neck. The friction could cause the wart to tear from the skin. Although this is not dangerous, it can be painful. Neck warts can be similarly difficult to treat because the skin on the neck and face is thinner and more delicate than skin on other areas of the body.
